A long-term participant of Trail Association of Community Living's Getting To Home (GTH) program was successfully supported in accessing treatment, after several previous attempts.  This individual has been in and out of the GTH program for many years and faces many barriers related to housing stability and health care. At the end of this quarter the individual was admitted to a hospital.  Due to provincial medical transport regulations this was a vital step in the process as only individuals classified as inpatients are eligible for air ambulance transfer.  Unfortunately, right before Christmas, severe weather caused their flight to be cancelled, which resulted in them missing the deadline for admission to the treatment facility. The GTH staff and staff at LaNina shelter did not give up and continued to advocate on their behalf.  When another bed became available, they were once again admitted to the ward of the hospital, and arrangements were made for air transport.  They were successfully flown out and admitted to the treatment facility, where they could begin their recovery journey.  This specific case speaks to the resilience of the individual, the importance of coordinated systems of care, and the dedication of program staff to ensure that those with complex needs receive the treatment and support that they deserve.
