Knowledge Builds Confidence

As an Island Crisis Care Society Outreach worker, one of the most impactful ways we help clients grow is by connecting them with accessible, local resources that align with their immediate needs and long-term goals.  By guiding them toward services such as Island Health, Society of Organized Services (SOS), or broader programs in the community, clients begin to understand what’s available to them, and more importantly, how to access those services independently over time.  These connections meet basic needs and help build confidence. Clients learn how to self-advocate, navigate systems, and engage with professional supports in a way that feels manageable and safe.  Each appointment attended, form completed, or support group accessed, becomes a small win that contributes to a larger sense of stability and capability.  In between these connections we provide regular mental health check-ins and gently introduce basic life tools, such as emotional regulation strategies, grounding techniques, routines, or reminders that promote self-care and a client’s ability to be socially accepted in future employment settings.  These informal, trust-based conversations create space for learning without pressure and often help bridge the gap between street survival and long-term wellness.

The PGNAETA Reaching Home Division are honoured to work, live and play on the unceded traditional and ancestral territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.
