Project Connect, an annual event Society of Organized Services attends that connects those experiencing homelessness with local resources was a great opportunity for community members to connect with health and wellness services and also provided an opportunity for service providers to learn more about each other and the services they have available in the community.  This was a public event, and was advertised with posters, podcast mentions, and community outreach handouts.  It is estimated that 50-60 individuals attended the event.  The coordinator has been strengthening their relationship with the City of Parksville’s Emergency Management Coordinator.  This relationship has resulted most recently with the City providing 200+ surplus emergency Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) to the coordinator, for dispersal in the community.  These meals have been shared with community outreach workers through the Homelessness Outreach Support Team (HOST) and have been a welcome support to community members especially during these colder days.  In November the coordinator attended a local Outreach Round Table discussion hosted by the local Public Health team. The coordinator shared information about supports available through Society of Organized Services (SOS), the coordinator, and the Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy funding and learned about additional outreach support available through the Island Health Public Health team.
