The coordinator continues to develop relationships with other agencies and increase knowledge of available services in the community.  These efforts assist the coordinator in providing a formalized access point where clients can receive relevant assistance where possible and be connected with other appropriate services where needed.  This relationship building also supports a more collaborative approach to care and service delivery in our community.  During an emergency heat event in July, the Oceanside Task Force on Homelessness (OTFH) received Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) funding through the City of Parksville to purchase bottled water.  This water was available to OTFH partner organizations that provide outreach in the community, as well as for clients at the Society of Organized Services (SOS) admin office.  SOS/OTFH also partnered with Island Health to provide a misting station in the SOS Friendship Garden for heat relief during the hotter days when it is greater than 25 degrees Celsius this summer.  It operated for 8 days in total and saw 4-5 people per day.  As our funding this year for supplies (such as tents, tarps, and sleeping bags) was limited and Risebridge confirmed that they also received funding for these supplies we have been referring many of our walk-in clients to Risebridge for supplies during drop-in times Monday-Thursday from 2-6 pm, and we ensured that we had supplies available for clients coming to us on Fridays to fill the gap and assist clients through the weekend.
